Alabama's constitution calls for the popular election of a district attorney in each judicial circuit. The district attorney must be a lawyer, and serves for a term of six years. Baldwin County is the Twenty-Eighth Judicial Circuit of Alabama.
The district attorney is the lawyer for the people of Alabama.
She represents
the State in prosecutions against violators of criminal laws, and conducts
proceedings before grand juries. District attorneys appoint a varying number of assistants to help carry out such responsibilities as working with grand juries, drafting indictments, and prosecuting defendants in criminal trials.
The district attorney supplies protection and assistance to victims of crime by providing them with a voice in the criminal justice system. Moral support and guidance is vital during this daunting time.
The district attorney protects the quality of life within the circuit by enforcing existing environmental laws, and assisting in the enactment of laws where needed.
The district attorney must work with all levels of law enforcement. In this great turbulence of the Twenty-First Century, law and order are the only things which stand between the people and total chaos. While life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are unalienable rights, endowed by our Creator, and protected by the Constitution of this great nation, they must be forever safeguarded.
The district attorney serves as the public lawyer for the people of the Twenty-Eighth Judicial Circuit, and is prohibited by law from giving legal advice or acting on any private legal matter.
